Lilly's Cialis gaining on Viagra Eli Lilly and Co.'s drug for erectile dysfunction, Cialis, is gaining on first-place Viagra, the Indianapolis-based company says. Lilly said today that Cialis gained more than 3 percent of market share between July 2005 and July 2006. Sales of Cialis continue to grow in most markets, including the United States, Europe and Latin America, and the drug is on track to be No. 1 worldwide -- excluding the United States -- by next year, the company said Viagra, made by Pfizer Inc., has 49.3 percent of the market as of July , while Cialis has 35.5 percent, Lilly said in a presentation to analysts and media this morning in New York City. Third-place Levitra, made by GlaxoSmithKline, had about 15.3 percent of the market. Lilly developed Cialis in a
joint venture with biotech company Icos Corp., of Seattle. Lilly is in
the process of buying Icos for $2.1 billion. Icos shareholders will vote
on Lilly's offer later this month.
